Ahead of the India vs England 3rd Test, the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SAC) has officially changed the name of the Rajkot Stadium after former first-class cricketers and BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah. Although news of its renaming came out last year, the SAC has now decided to name it the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium.
On Tuesday, the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) announced that it would rename its home venue in Khanderi, Rajkot, as the Niranjan Shah Stadium on February 14, a day before India and England take the field there for the third Test of the ongoing five-match series.
Niranjan Shah has played 12 first-class matches for Saurashtra from 1965/66 to 1974/75. However, even before his career came to an end, the cricketer had occupied the post of honorary secretary of the SAC in 1972. Shah had occupied the post for well over three decades and will now have Rajkot Stadium named after him.
