Juggernaut ( Cain Marko) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-writer Jack Kirby, he first appeared in X-Men #12 (July 1965) as an adversary of the eponymous superhero team.
The character was based on the Hindu deity, Jagannath, whose worshippers threw themselves on the ground and allowed themselves to be crushed by the idol of Jagannath, as it was wheeled forward on a tower sixty feet high. Juggernaut's debut in The X-Men #12. Art by Jack Kirby.
The English word juggernaut was the rendition into English of "Jagannath" by early British in India, and came to mean a very large and unstoppable force from accounts of the famous Ratha Yatra processions in Puri. Jagannath is considered a non-sectarian deity.

According to the most common strength ranking system used in Marvel side content, Juggernaut has always been a Level 100, meaning that he can lift over a hundred tons. Juggernaut has also defeated the Hulk on more than one occasion, so putting his strength level at well over a hundred tons wouldn't be a stretch.
Following the Siege storyline, Juggernaut is shown at The Raft at the start of the Heroic Age storyline – weakened, since Cyttorak apparently took his temporary empowerment by the Uni-Power as an affront and withheld part of his "blessing".
The artists and painters of Puri decorate the cars and paint flower petals and other designs on the wheels, the wood-carved charioteer and horses, and the inverted lotuses on the wall behind the throne. The huge chariots of Jagannath pulled during Ratha Yatra is the etymological origin of the English word ' Juggernaut '.
